When is cycling on Trek Marlin 5 best on Samui?
I rode my fastest ring road - 50 km in 3h15 - on the Marlin 5 in cool, dry January air, and December through April is the optimal window: 25 to 30 degrees, low humidity, little rain, trade winds cooling the east coast. Whatever the season, the real window is 6 to 10 a.m.; leaving Chaweng at 6 in April I did 40 km before the heat made more effort unpleasant, a limit set by Samui's climate, not the bike. October and November are high-risk monsoon - I turned back after 15 km ahead of a fast Gulf thunderstorm, with daily rain of 100 to 300 mm flooding roads no bicycle handles safely. March and April give the driest, longest circuits and best coastal light, reliable from 6 to 11 a.m. Ride the Marlin 5 December to April, always before 10 a.m.; March and April give the longest dry windows, while October and November monsoon ends rides early.
